Pakistani Students Won Two Bronze Medals and Four Honorable Mentions in the International Science Olympiads in Japan, Korea, Croatia and Kazakhstan July-2010

 

The Pakistani Teams of talented students selected by the STEM Careers Programme (SCP) and its Home Institutes, represented Pakistan in 21st International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Changwon, Korea, 42nd International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Tokyo, Japan 51st International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Astana, Kazakhstan and 41st International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Zagreb, Croatia in July, 2010.

 The IBO team was led by Dr Zafar M Khalid and Dr Muhammad Saeed of NIBGE Faisalabad. The IChO team was led by Prof Dr. Khalid M Khan and Dr Raza Shah of HEJ Research Institute, Karachi. The IMO team was led by Prof Dr A D Raza Choudary and Dr Ahmed Mahmood Qureshi of ASSMS, GCU, Lahore. The IPhO team was led by Dr Shahid Qamar and Dr Masroor Ikram of PIEAS, Islamabad.

The dedication and hard work of members of the SCP, HEC, Home Institutes i.e. NIBGE, HEJ Research Institute, ASSMS and PIEAS in selecting and preparing these students paid dividends when two students won Bronze Medals (BM) and four students won Honorable Mentions (HM) in these competitions. These annual International Olympiads provide pre-university science students from around the world an opportunity to compete in solving challenging theoretical and experimental science problems that only the most talented youth of their age can answer.

233 students from 58 countries participated in IBO 2010,  358 students representing 109 countries participated in IChO, 517 students, for the rank of the best young mathematician the world competed students from 97 countries in the IMO 2010 and total of 367  pre-university students from 82 nations participated in IPhO.
