STEM Careers Programme Organized 5th
Design Build and Fly Competition (DBFC-V) in collaboration with
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME) of Ghulam Ishaq Khan
Institute (GIK-I) on 10-11th April-2010 at GIK-I.

The aim of such competition is to
encourage the youth and to hunt the talent to ultimately take them
to international level competitions in the years to come.
14 teams of different engineering
universities of across the country participated in the competition.
Air commodore and Managing Director
Kamra Avionics and Radar Factory, Muhammad Nawaz was the chief guest
on the occasion and judges from the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex
(PAC) Kamra were invited to
judge the capabilities of young engineers and their efforts to
Design, Build and Fly Remote Controlled Aircrafts.
In his address, Mr Nawaz said that
DBFC has increased awareness, promoted creativity, practical
implementation of designs, improved presentation skill and
demonstrating the ability of students to design, build and fly.
Mr Nawaz said that it was really
encouraging and appreciable to see the excellent design, build and
flying efforts made by student. “The level of professionalism and
design was really attractive,” he said.
The event was divided in two
categories: Engine Power and Electric Power. In the Engine Power
category the first prize won by UET Taxila team, second by NED
University team and third by UET Lahore team. Three consolation
prices were given to the teams of GIK Institute, Sir Syed University
, Karachi and International Islamic University, Islamabad .
In the Electric Power category the
first prize won by NED University and the single consolation prize
bagged by UET Taxila.
Mr. Mohammad Jamil, Programme
Director, STEM Careers Programme, Prof Dr Javed Ahmad Chattha, Dean
Faculty of Mechanical, GIKI and Dr Muhammad Abid, Coordinator DBFC
were also present on the occasion.
