2nd DESIGN, BUILD AND FLY COMPETITION (DBFC) 2006-07

Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences & Technology is known for its academic excellence and extra-curricular activities throughout Pakistan. Besides keeping its prestige in academics it also prepares its students for the challenging world by giving them the opportunities to arrange different extra-curricular activities. GIK student body has the honor of arranging different national and international competitions. American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) GIKI Chapter is also a well established student body that has organized different workshops and competitions in the field of aeronautics and astronautics.

We are pleased to inform you that GIKI held the 2nd National Design, Build and Fly Contest (DBFC-II) in 2007; after the success of the 1st Design, Build and Fly Contest which was held in GIKI on 29th April 2006. DBFC is a nationwide contest, organized by the GIKI Student Chapter of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), in collaboration with STEM Careers Project. In the first contest, from all over Pakistan 08 teams participated including 6 in Engine Powered category and 2 in the Electric Powered category.

AIAA GIKI Chapter and GIK Institute through the STEM Careers Project and HEC invite undergraduate students to participate in the 2nd National Design, Build & Fly Contest. The contest provide a real world aircraft design experience for engineering students by giving them the opportunity to validate their analytic studies.

Student teams design, fabricate, and demonstrate the flight capabilities of an unmanned electric/engine powered, radio controlled aircraft that can best meet the specified mission profile. The goal is to make a balanced design that possess good flight handling qualities and must be practical and affordable.

Prize Money

Students participating in both categories i.e. Electric Powered and Engine Powered competed separately. Winners in each category was awarded by certificates and cash prizes.

  • Second prize            Rs. 25,000/-
  • Third Prize                Rs. 20,000/-
